As the tensions over immigration, the European recession, and growing nationalism engulfed Italy, the City of Milan stood apart from the rest of the country. Grounded in a pro-globalism ethos, the city consciously set out to welcome new residents, businesses, and visitors from around the globe. To help position Milan as the country’s most open and welcoming city, the Mayor’s Office specifically sought Bloomberg Associates’ support to modernize its economic development strategy, create green public space, and make it easier for people to move to the city.
