The 2020 edition of Bloomberg Associates’ Digital City Tools showcases the innovative ways in which 30 leading city governments around the world are embracing technology and transforming the culture of their organizations. The report maps these cities’ deployment of 41 technologies across five thematic areas: connectivity, data, city operations, transport and mobility, and safety and security, and looks at how these technologies are applied to specific city challenges and priorities.

City Tools: London report
Bloomberg Associates partnered with the London Office of Technology and Innovation to map and analyze the technologies, contracts, and skills across London’s boroughs. This exercise served as a foundation for collaborations between local authorities, identified opportunities for new entrants and innovators into the government technology market, and drove cost savings by coordinating contracts and leveraging boroughs’ collective bargaining power.
Digital City Tools 2018 report
The 2018 edition of Bloomberg Associates’ Digital City Tools captures how 22 cities across the world use digital tools to better engage with their residents. The report focuses on eight key digital tools used by cities: artificial intelligence, email marketing and newsletters, online chat support, non-emergency reporting platforms, social media platforms, social media management tools, text SMS, and website content management systems, while providing programmatic highlights from each of the participating cities, and key findings and insights by digital tool.
